Tourism in Highschool

Tourism 11 and Tourism 12 are academic elective courses offered in Nova Scotia high schools that are designed for students who are interested in the Hospitality/Tourism Sector. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills in communication, problem solving, decision making, information processing, and organization, working both independently and as a team player. Completion of this course prepares students for entry-level jobs in Tourism and post secondary Tourism programs. Included in curriculum:

Objectives reflect employer expectations of the basic skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for entry-level positions in the tourism sector. This course is supported by Industry and the Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council. Learning opportunities will include Super Host and job shadowing, work experience and field trips.

Canadian Academy of Travel and Tourism (CATT)

The Academy’s mission is to introduce and promote Tourism careers to students pursuing their high school diploma. The Academy offers Tourism courses, projects and activities as part of the high school curriculum (grades 10, 11 & 12) in selected schools across Canada. Information about global travel and Tourism conditions and trends complements the existing high school curriculum in Academy schools. An Industry advisory group works with the school, students and parents to enhance experiential activities and promote work placements.
