The Tourism Industry gathered on June 26th to recognize tourism professionals from across Nova Scotia at the 2018 Recognition of Excellence Awards celebration.  The event recognized the significant achievement of tourism professionals who have earned the emerit National Certification designation – the highest credential available to tourism workers in Canada.

“This evening is about recognizing the people who have the most significant impact on our visitors’ experience,” said Wes Surrett, Chair of the Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council (NSTHRC).   “Tourism in Nova Scotia is significant and with a revenue target of $4 billion annually by 2024, we need to ensure that we have a highly trained and skilled workforce,” says Surrett.

Nova Scotia continues to maintain the highest number of certified tourism professionals per capita.

“Tourism is extremely important to Nova Scotia’s economy and this investment by the businesses and individuals will ensure that Nova Scotia’s tourism industry continues to grow and prosper,” said The Honourable Geoff MacLellan, Minister of Business. “I congratulate all of the newly certified tourism professionals and organizations recognized at last evening’s event.”

A number of Nova Scotia businesses were also in attendance at this annual event, as the Property Recognition Awards were presented to 12 businesses that support their employees’ higher learning and the certification process.  Representatives from Tourism HR Canada also joined the celebration, to bring greetings from Ottawa.
