Focus Group for Bartenders and Servers
The Canadian Tourism Human Resources Council (CTHRC) and the Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council (NSTHRC) initiated a project in 2009 to update the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Banquet Server, Bartender and Food & Beverage Server.

Occupational standards are used as the basis for program development, such as the creation of training curriculum and competency-based assessment programs. They also help to inform individuals seeking information on careers or for other labour market requirements.

NSTHRC and the CTHRC fully appreciate the importance of having these standards reflect the needs and wants of the industry, and therefore feel it is critical to have experts in this occupation participate in our research. As part of the primary research component for reviewing and updating the NOS for these occupations, we are seeking attendance and active participation in a Regional Meeting.

The focus of this two day meeting is to examine the actual skills and sub-skills of the NOS in relation to the occupation; and aid to inform a situational analysis for the occupations.

February 22nd and 23rd – Location will be in Halifax at the hotel that will be providing accommodations. Travel could be on the morning of the 22nd or you would have the choice of accommodations the evening of the 21st if you are outside of the HRM area.

The regional focus group will take place on Monday noon - 4:00 PM and Tuesday from 9 until 4 or 4:30. All transportation costs to and from the session, accommodation if necessary, and meals, will be fully covered by NSTHRC and the CTHRC.

We recognize that you are an active member of the industry, and we would greatly value your participation in this project. Please indicate your interest as soon as possible, by contacting Jane.
