Welcome to the Summer Edition of Professionally Speaking
In the past year, we have welcomed a number of changes here at the Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council. This August, marks our 1st Anniversary at our new office at 2089 Maitland Street in Halifax. If you haven't seen the new space, we encourage you to stop in and say hello.

The Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council (NSTHRC) is pleased to announce that Mr. Glenn Squires has assumed the role as Chairman of the Board of NSTHRC. Glenn is the Chief Executive Officer of Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc. Glenn has been very involved with TIANS over the years and is a great supporter and advocate of human resource development in the tourism industry. We would like to acknowledge our Past-Chair, Ms. Mary Dempster, for all of her hard work and dedication in support of improving the tourism workforce.

Change is a consistent theme in our lives. We at the Council encourage you to embrace change and take positive steps to move with it. Technology is advancing at a rapid pace. Our training and learning products are increasingly being accessed online as user demand is high. Check out the options on the online campus - there is sure to be a fit that is right for your organization. Training is not a seasonal task - ongoing training and professional development in your people will have a lasting impact on your business success.

The Council is pleased to announce the 2010 tourism scholarship winners in this edition of the newsletter. Up to $5000.00 in Tourism Scholarships are distributed annually by the Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council. High School students are awarded the Gold ($1250) and Silver ($750) renewable Walter H. Johnson Jr. Scholarships. Tourism employees are awarded the Judith B. Cabrita Tourism Professional Scholarship (up to $1000). As well, NSTHRC has partnered with the Hotel Association of Nova Scotia to provide a Culinary Scholarship for $1000. Please contact the Council to learn more about our Tourism Scholarships.

Thank you for taking the time to read Professionally Speaking. We hope you enjoy the articles, resources, and event information provided to you. As always, we look forward to any feedback you may have, and welcome industry contributions to our e-newsletter.

Have a great Summer!
